NASA CONFIRMS water molecules on the sunlit surface of the moon.
Water is on the sunlit surface of the moon, NASA confirmed on Monday.
Water molecules were detected in the moon’s southern hemisphere inside the Clavius Crater, one of the largest craters visible from Earth. Water is known to be in permanently shadowed craters of the moon, but this is the first time NASA has confirmed water on the sunlit surface of the moon.
But the water molecules in Clavius Crater are not in chunks of ice or puddles of liquid water. They’re in concentrations of 100 to 412 parts per million — roughly equivalent to a 12-ounce bottle of water — trapped in a cubic meter of soil spread across the lunar surface.
